What’s so great about sewing? The reasons boil down to time and money—and a whole lot less of both.
The majority of sewn solutions control environments. They:
Exclude light;
Exclude water;
Include water;
Regulate temperatures;
Cushion impacts;
Apply pressures;
Exclude contaminants;
Control noise;
Make giant prosthetic snakes come alive!
But (with the exception of the snake) there are many other ways to do these things. So why sewing?

LESS TIME
The first reason is that old immortal: "It Takes Less Time." Making complex shapes out of cloth is simply faster than using other materials. Sewn solutions require no molds, no tooling, and no rigid production lines. Complex undercut shapes are quick to prototype and refine. There are no in-built delays.

LESS COST
The second reason is that other old immortal: "It Takes Less Money." Sewn solutions can be evolved on the fly, which lowers cost (and risk). If you don’t like a feature, you can tweak it without retooling the whole production line—because there is no tooling. Just needle, thread, and skill.

The result? Sewn solutions are quick to produce, inexpensive, and completely custom. There are no sunk costs to amortize, so designs don’t have to be "generalized" for larger markets. They can be built down to the last stitch to make you—and only you—happy.
