WHERE WE STARTED
General Dynamics asked Precision
Technical Sewing for ductwork to
protect sensitive electronics. They
presented us with an extremely detailed
set of plans, and specs for exotic
materials: silver tape; copper tape;
Aramid cloth with aluminum laminate;
a set of variably conductive materials;
Kevlar thread; and so on. |
WHERE WE ENDED UP
We met all these specs in the finished
product (above). It presented some real
challenges to our team, given the complex
shapes, need for movement, very
tight tolerances, and layered construction
that required us to sew to these tolerances
inside a cramped and flexible space.
Not your average elbow patch.
